Canopies and covered walkways
A canopy does for people what a carport does for a vehicle. Over an entrance it keeps the rain off whoever is waiting at the door and stops the reception baking in the afternoon sun. Along a path it turns a dash between two buildings into an ordinary walk, whatever the weather is doing.
The engineering underneath is identical to our carports: a hot-dip galvanised steel frame set in concrete footings, covered in either tensioned shade cloth or UV-coated polycarbonate. What changes is the shape. A walkway is designed around the route people actually take and the headroom they need; an entrance canopy is designed around the door, the step and the way the building already looks.
That last part matters more than people expect. A canopy bolted on without thought is the first thing a visitor notices about a building. One designed to the proportions of the entrance simply looks like it was always meant to be there.

Ask a questionCan a walkway follow a path that bends?
Yes. Walkways are fabricated in spans, so the run can turn a corner, step down a slope or split towards two doors. We set out the route on site during the survey and build the frame to match it, rather than forcing a straight line across ground that is not straight.
Should a canopy be shade net or polycarbonate?
Almost always polycarbonate for anything people walk under or wait beneath, because the point is usually to stay dry as well as shaded. Shade cloth suits open seating and assembly areas where rain is not the issue and airflow matters more. We will say which one fits your space at the survey.
Can you match a canopy to the building it attaches to?
Within reason, yes. Frame colour, the tint of the sheeting and the pitch can all be chosen to sit with the building rather than against it. We take the measurements and the surrounding detail at the survey, and the quote comes with a drawing so you can see how it will sit before anything is fabricated.
