Carports in Tema
Tema is a different job from Accra, and the reason is the sea. Air this close to the coast and the harbour carries salt, and salt is what turns ordinary painted steel into rust streaks within a few seasons. Every frame we build is hot-dip galvanised rather than painted, which is the whole point in a town like this — the zinc is bonded through the steel, not sitting on top of it waiting to chip.
The other thing about Tema is that a lot of the work is commercial. Offices, industrial estates and staff car parks along the harbour road need runs of covered bays rather than a single carport at a house, and those are phased so the car park is never entirely out of use while we are working.
The town's numbered communities make finding a site easy, which is more useful than it sounds — a survey booked for the morning happens in the morning.

The parts of the job that change because the site is in Tema rather than anywhere else.
Salt air, so galvanised rather than painted
Hot-dip galvanising is standard on everything we fabricate, and near the coast it is not a nicety. Painted steel near the sea fails at every scratch and every weld. Galvanised steel does not, which is why the frame outlasts the cover on it by decades.
Staff car parks, built in phases
A run of bays outside an office does not have to close the whole car park. We set out the run, work through it in sections, and keep the rest available — which matters more to a facilities manager than anything else on the quote.
Wind off the sea
Open sites near the coast catch more wind than a walled compound inland. That changes the footing depth and the fixing detail, not the design, and it is one of the things the survey is for. It is also the reason we will not quote an exposed site from a photograph.

Shade net or polycarbonate in Tema?
Both use the same hot-dip galvanised frame. The cover is the decision, and it comes down to whether you need to stop the sun or stop the rain as well.

The frame should not. We hot-dip galvanise every structure, which bonds zinc through the surface of the steel rather than coating it, and that is what stands up to salt air. Painted steel is the material that fails near the sea — at scratches, at bolt holes and at welds. If a quote you are comparing says painted or powder-coated only, ask what is underneath it.
Can you cover a staff car park without closing it?
Yes, and that is normally how we do it. The run is split into sections, each section is footed, erected and covered before we move on, and the rest of the car park stays open throughout. We agree the sequence with whoever manages the site before the first footing is dug.
Do you charge extra to come out to Tema?
No. Tema is one of the three areas we cover, along with Accra and Nungua, and the site survey is free there like anywhere else. Travel is not a line on the quote.
