Shade net carports in Ghana
A shade net carport is the most affordable way to get a vehicle out of the Ghanaian sun. Knitted HDPE cloth is tensioned across a hot-dip galvanised steel frame set in concrete footings, and it blocks up to 95% of direct sunlight while letting air move straight through.
That breathability is the part people underestimate. A solid roof traps hot air underneath it on a still afternoon; a woven one lets it rise and escape, so the space under a shade net stays noticeably cooler. It is also the lightest structure we build, which means fewer footings, less steel and a shorter day on site.
What it will not do is keep the rain off. Water passes straight through the weave. If the car needs to stay dry, polycarbonate is the honest answer and we will tell you so at the survey.

What shade net gives you
Homes and offices where sun and heat are the problem and the car does not need to stay dry.
- Blocks up to 95% of direct sun and effectively all UV
- Breathable weave lets heat escape instead of trapping it
- Lightest structure, so fewer footings and a faster install
- The most affordable option per parking bay
- Cloth can be re-tensioned or replaced without touching the frame

Would polycarbonate suit you better?
Multiwall or solid polycarbonate sheeting on a steel frame. Full cover from sun and rain, with daylight still coming through.
| Criterion | Shade net | Polycarbonate |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Lower — the most affordable cover per bay | Higher — more material and a heavier frame |
| Rain protection | None. Water passes straight through the weave | Complete. Sheds a full downpour |
| Sun and UV | Blocks up to 95% of direct sun | Blocks effectively all UV, passes daylight |
| Heat underneath | Coolest — the weave lets hot air escape | Warmer on still days, as heat collects under the sheet |
| Dust and falling debris | Fine dust and sap still get through | Keeps the car clean underneath |
| Lifespan of the cover | 8–12 years before the cloth needs replacing | 15–20 years with the UV coating intact |
| Frame lifespan | Hot-dip galvanised steel, decades either way | Hot-dip galvanised steel, decades either way |
| Installation time | Typically one day for a standard double bay | Typically two days for a standard double bay |
| Noise in heavy rain | Silent — nothing to drum on | Audible drumming during a downpour |
Shade net carports: common questions
Not seeing yours? Send it over on WhatsApp — you will get a straight answer, not a sales call.
Ask a questionWill a shade net carport keep the rain off?
No. The cloth is a woven mesh, so rain passes straight through it. Shade net solves sun, heat and UV — if the vehicle needs to stay dry, you want polycarbonate instead. We would rather say that at the survey than sell you the cheaper option and have you disappointed the first time it rains.
Is it really cooler under shade net than under a solid roof?
Yes, and the reason is airflow rather than the cloth itself. A solid sheet stops the sun but also traps the hot air rising underneath it, which is why a closed carport can feel stifling on a still day. A woven cloth blocks the sun and lets that air keep moving through, so the temperature underneath settles lower.
Can shade net cover a whole staff car park?
Yes. We build anything from a single residential bay up to car parks of twenty bays and more. Larger runs are phased so the whole area is never out of use at once, and because the structure is light the footings and steel work out cheaper per bay than a solid roof over the same span.
